Living monument is a monument to the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina in building a better society, but also acceptance of responsibility / solidarity for the crimes committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also in the former Yugoslavia.
Living monument is UDIK’s idea, a way of dealing with the past marking the anniversary of the crime, “disturbing” and recalling, so the public condemn the crime. In this way, the crime is visible in public, activists build monument with their body and show that the monument is built by the human body and thinking about the crime.
To the past two years, Living monument builds up in front of the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Sarajevo. Besides Sarajevo, UDIK built Living monument in other cities and towns, such as Ahmici, Banja Luka, Belgrade, Bijeljina, Brcko, Visegrad, Zagreb, Zenica, Prijepolje, Srebrenica, Tuzla, Foca and others.
For the first time as a civil society, with the Living monument UDIK marked many crimes before which citizens and civil society for years kept silent.
With the Living monument UDIK has created a base of peace building activism and memorialization in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
