The Association for Social Research and Communications Brcko DC BiH (UDIK Brcko DC) informs the public that on Sunday, May 31, 2015 will organize a street action on the occasion of the International Day of White Ribbons. Half-hour activity will be organized at noon on the Square of youth in Brcko, where all passers-by will have the opportunity to take the white armband and to express solidarity with all victims of crimes committed in Prijedor.
We remind that on May 31, 1992, Bosnian Serb authorities in Prijedor issued a decree through local radio for all non-Serbs to mark their houses with white flags or sheets and to wear a white armband if they were to leave their houses. This was the first time that after the Nazi edict of 1939 members of an ethnic or religious group in this way were marked for extermination.
With this street action UDIK wants to remind the public to this unfortunate act that was the beginning of a campaign of extermination of non-Serbs through the opening of the concentration camps, mass executions, rape and various other crimes. Putting white bands we will pay tribute to all the victims and express solidarity with all the victims who have been denied the right to memory.
