On Tuesday, July 12, 2016, activists of the Association for Social Research and Communications (UDIK) will visit a Memorial Center “Potocari” where they will lay a wreath and pay tribute to the victims of the Srebrenica genocide.
According to the ICTY indictment, until July 19, 1995 the troops under the command of Ratko Mladic killed about 8,000 bosniaks men and boys. About 30,000 women and children were deported for two days. In 2007 the International Court of Justice in The Hague issued a judgment Srebrenica massacre an act of genocide.
In January 2009 the European Parliament has been declared July 11 as a Day of remembrance of the genocide in Srebrenica. Of the countries in the region that decision accepted Montenegro, Croatia and Macedonia. State Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina declared July 11 as a Day of remembrance of the Srebrenica genocide, but it applies only to the territory of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Members of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska continue to oppose this decision. This attitude of Republic of Srpska shows that Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country that continues to deny the criminal past and still does not experience true reconciliation process. Politicians, civil society and citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina must unify their opinions for a better future of this country.
