The Association for Social Research and Communications (UDIK) informs the public that on Sunday, May 17th, 2015, will organize activity to mark the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT). Half-hour activity will take place at 12pm on the Square fra Grga Martic with placing big rainbow flag on the Square in front of the citizens of Sarajevo.
We remind that on May 17th, 1990, homosexuality was removed from the list of mental disorders by the World Health Organization (WHO) and since then this day is marked as a reminder of the importance of respecting the human rights of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans) people around the world. LGBT persons constitute 3-12% of the population of every society and also in Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, despite this, in Bosnia and Herzegovina because of violence, fear, exclusion and discrimination, this population remains completely invisible in BiH’s society.
With this action UDIK wants to present Sarajevo like European city in which human rights are respected and setting the rainbow flag UDIK wants to show the symbolism of peace and love in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and to show the equality of all citizens of this country.
Please note that the Square fra Grga Martic is usual place for UDIK’s street activities in Sarajevo and we didn’t choose this place with the aim to provoke anyone, especially not for provocation with religious reasons.
